Listings

The usage of myCollection application

When the program starts the listing window appears at first time. The structure of the window is as follows. On the left side the list of collections, the categories inside them and below the set of filters appear. In the center are the four lists of the current coins. On the right are, in certain cases, the images of the selected coin. Let's look all these in detail.

Filtering

In the left top field the user can select the collection and the category of what part of the collection he wants to deal with. If a main category is selected, all the coins, medals, which fall into this category and its subcategories below will appear in the lists. As the user moves down among the categories and selects a subcategory, he narrows the filter and the list contains fewer pieces.

In the second field on the left below the categories keyword can be selected. This with further narrow the number of items displayed in a list. To find what the user is looking for among the many keywords he can start typing the first letters of the keyword in the "Keyword filtering" edit box. A list of keywords will start to shrink, until he finds what he was looking for. Clicking on it the user can validate filtering. If the user wants to cancel a keyword filtering, then clicking on the red cross icon that appears above the tab will clear the selection.

If the user enters a word or a fragment in the editor box with title Search and presses the "Search" button at the bottom only those medals will remain in the list, which includes the specific word fragment in the general-, obverse- or reverse- description or in the title (select the appropriate check box). The filtering can be turned off by pressing the red cross icon.

At the lower part of the left side the user can enter additional filter criteria. These are usually selections from lists. The year filtering deserves special. There is not just a year, but a period of time can be set by the initial and final years. These filters can also be deselected by pressing the red cross icon.

The list window

Filtered items can be watched in three or four different views, depending on the settings.

In list view, the name, the version and the date/year and will always be listed. In the settings menu (see Settings) the user can specify what more information he wants to be listed. If the user clicks on the header of the list to a name of a field with the mouse, the displayed items are listed in alphabetically sorted according to that field. Once again, click on the same field and the items will be listed in reverse alphabetical. When the user selects an item from the list, then on the right the obverse and reverse image will be visible.

In Individual view the details of the currently selected coin can be viewed. In this case, the navigation buttons at the bottom allow the user to move to the first, the last, the next or the last item. The individual view can be mixed with with the list view. In this case the details are visible along with the list view, and this separate view is not visible. Click on Settings -> Display settings menu and select one of the Wide screen modes. If the user has a wide screen monitor these settings are suggested.

In Image view mode, the obverse and the reverse can be viewed at higher, original resolution. Here again the navigation buttons on the page can be used to move on. Press the "Open" button to transfer the current image to image viewer program of the computer. It is important to note that if the image is modified by the external viewer software, it will not be saved in the myCollection program. Image can only be changed by the "Edit item" menu using the new image to replace the old one, or use the built in online image editor (internet connection is needed).

In Tableau view small thumbnails of selected coins are displayed.
